Screen adds Digital Primer Option for Truepress Label 350UV SAI S

New option to maximize UV inkjet capabilities to improve quality, adhesion and durability.

Screen has finalized the development of the Digital Primer Option for its Truepress Label 350UV SAI S press. This option allows converters to maximize UV inkjet printing capabilities by improving print quality, adhesion, and durability. The company plans to launch the ink worldwide starting in October 2024.

According to Screen, the number of substrates in the packaging industry, including the label segment, has steadily increased. Compared to other digital methods, UV inkjet printing is more suitable for wide substrates and is more durable, and its popularity has increased based on these advantages. However, UV inkjet printing may not produce satisfactory results on some special substrates, and the wettability varies depending on the ink and substrate, resulting in differences in quality, adhesion, and durability.

To address these trends, Screen has developed the Digital Primer Option for its Truepress LABEL 350UV SAI S to improve adhesion, graininess and other characteristics. This option utilizes the extra head space in the Truepress LABEL 350UV SAI S to install an in-line inkjet primer unit without requiring additional installation space and additional main UV lamps.

The primer unit can automatically generate a primer layer based on print data. Furthermore, the ink can be a near-transparent color and, in some cases, be used like varnish, making it more decorative.

In this way, the in-line primer unit can expand the range of materials and applications for digital printing, creating further cost advantages and contributing to the system’s environmental friendliness by reducing waste and power consumption.
