Alufoil Trophy 2018 winners revealed

EAFA, the European Aluminium Foil Association, has presented its latest Alufoil Trophy awards, with Constantia Flexibles, Amcor Flexibles and Huhtamaki Flexible Packaging among the winners.

The Alufoil Trophy competition is organized by EAFA as a showcase for excellence and innovation using aluminum foil. The Alufoil Trophy competition is open to products that are either made from aluminum foil or contain aluminum foil as part of a laminate, structure or packaging system, as well as aluminum closures. Five categories are contested – Consumer Convenience, Marketing + Design, Product Protection, Resource Efficiency and Technical Innovation.

This year there were 10 winners across a range of applications including pharmaceutical, food and snack packaging, and LED lighting:

Consumer Convenience:

  • Perlen Packaging, for ‘PERLAMED-BLISTair’
  • Plus Pack, for ‘Ready2Cook Skin Packaging Solution’

Marketing + Design

  • Closurelogic, for ‘Embossment on Talog’
  • Constantia Flexibles, for ‘Cat Milk in Aluminium Portion-Packs’

Product Protection

  • Tetra Pak, for ‘Tetra Fino Aseptic 100 Ultra MiM’

Resource Efficiency

  • Amcor Flexibles, for ‘PolyInert laminates for stick packs’
  • Huhtamaki Flexible Packaging, for ‘Lamineo’

Technical Innovation

  • Amcor Flexibles, for ‘AluFix Retort Xtra’
  • Guala Closures, for ‘Imagic’
  • Stogger and Novelis Deutschland, for ‘Stogger Wireless Lighting’

Guido Aufdemkamp, EAFA executive director, said: ‘Many of the winners for 2018 are truly groundbreaking, such as helping to simplify a complex electrical process, improve access to a key medical product, or creating stunning closure designs using crossover technology. We are constantly impressed by the way the aluminum foil sector can innovate and the Trophy is an important and effective way to recognize these achievements.’
