Top industry award for holography visionary

Philip Hudson (pictured) has won the Brian Monaghan Award for Business Innovation at the International Hologram Manufacturers Association’s (IHMA) Excellence in Holography Awards 2012, presented during Holo-pack•Holo-print, The Holography Conference, in Vienna.
The award is named after Brian Monaghan, a holography entrepreneur who died tragically young, and goes to the person selected by the board of the IHMA as an individual who has followed the tradition of business innovation established by Brian Monaghan.
Presenting the award, IHMA chairman Mike Messmer said: ‘Philip Hudson has shown a clear strategic vision throughout his career, which has seen the development of innovative and successful holographic products, while being committed to the industry and the industry association.
‘He was active in the early moves to establish a hologram association and has the distinction of having served twice as chairman of the IHMA, first when he was at De La Rue and then when he was at Optaglio.’
After leaving De La Rue Holographics, Hudson established Optaglio, buying Czech Holography and its e-beam origination facility, launching innovative and successful developments in origination and optical technique.
Organized by the IHMA, the Excellence in Holography Awards was attended by delegates from the worldwide holography community. Entries were judged by the IHMA Board, which comprises representatives from member companies. Other category winners were:
- Innovation in Holographic Technology – Hologram Industries for DROP
- Best Origination – OpSec for Papillion
- Best Applied Security Product – InkSure Technologies, MTM Security and The Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism for SmartSure for Turkey’s Tax Marks
- Best Applied Decorative Product – PT Pura Barutama & PT Eigerindo for Holographic Brand Tag on Fabric
Mike Messmer added: ‘The awards celebrate the very best in holographic achievement and the many remarkable innovations the industry introduces each year.
‘The winners’ work reflects the creativity, design excellence and quality which were the hallmarks of this year’s crop of entries, reflecting how holography continues to push forward the holographic boundaries technically and commercially.’
