W&H CI color management tool boosts German package printer’s operations

- CI press was purchased in order to extend reach in high-quality flexo printing, with Easy-Col specified to streamline operations
- Color matching time reduced with Easy-Col, while ink usage constantly logged to minimize quantity of left over inks
German package printing company JG Service AG has realized major savings through reliable and reproducible color matching thanks to the Windmöller & Hölscher (W&H) Easy-Col color management system.
Easy-Col is designed for automatic color matching and residual ink reduction on W&H central impression (CI) presses, and has been sold to more than 70 times worldwide.
Fast, reliable and reproducible color matching at job change-over has become of vital importance to the commercial efficiency of the printing press. Without the color matching feature installed, up to 50 percent of the complete job change time goes to this make-ready step alone.
W&H said Easy-Col reduces the time needed for color matching, while, at the same time, ink usages are constantly logged during production to minimize the quantity of left over inks.
JG Service has been using Easy-Col on a Miraflex AM 8 CI press since the end of 2010, and has achieved perfect color matching results in everyday production, resulting in major savings in terms of waste, residual inks and press make-ready times.
The press was purchased in order to extend its equipment in the field of high-quality flexo printing. Its production portfolio encompasses packaging material for the pharmaceutical, cosmetics and other non-food industries.
When specifying the Miraflex, the focus was on extensive process automation to ease and accelerate job changeover procedures to the greatest extent possible.
Easy-Set and Easy-Reg modules for automatic impression setting and registration were, therefore, a must. To complete the automation options, the company decided to add Easy-Col for ink weighing, residual ink reduction and decentralized color matching on the press.
Ernst Schönacher, operations and production manager at JG Service, said: ‘From the time the Miraflex, in conjunction with Easy-Col, went on stream, it became clear that, whoever was operating the press, absolutely consistent color matching results were achieved with Easy-Col.
‘With a maximum of two color match cycles, color specifications were accomplished, resulting in less waste, reduced time expenditure and minimum left over inks.’
