Multiple UPM Raflatac sites receive ISCC PLUS certification
Self-adhesive labelstock supplier UPM Raflatac has achieved sustainability certification from the International Sustainability and Carbon Certification Scheme ISCC PLUS at three of its factories and nine distribution terminals worldwide.
The company is making a change in the sustainable labels value chain and be one of the first adopters in the packaging industry to deliver this certification. UPM Raflatac’s ISCC PLUS certified products via mass-balance approach include UPM Raflatac Forest Film and UPM Raflatac PP C-PCR.
ISCC PLUS is one of the leading global sustainability certification schemes for a fully traceable supply chain to support the transition to a circular economy and bioeconomy. It allows biobased raw materials as well as waste and residue-based feedstock for plastic labels to be certified. The certification provides a proof of sustainably managed raw materials and value chains for renewable and chemically recycled products.
Several companies in the self-adhesive label industry have made the commitment to a circular economy, and UPM Raflatac has been a frontrunner in this charge. The company’s factories in Tampere in Finland, Nowa Wies in Poland, and Mills River in North Carolina, USA, as well as its distribution terminals with ISCC PLUS certification ensure that the whole supply chain is operating according to the guidelines.
‘From the beginning, it has been important to us that new raw materials we introduce to the market are coming from sustainable sources via a verifiable and transparent value chain,’ said Oona Koski, sustainability manager at UPM Raflatac. ‘Hence it was clear that our Forest Film and PP C-PCR label materials must be externally verified. As ISCC Plus is a globally recognized high-quality certification scheme for biobased and circular plastic, it is an excellent choice for us to continue our journey.’
